We went and visited with the
perinatologist today for our 33 week growth ultrasound. To my
surprise both babies have turned head down! The good news is both babies are moving around like crazy, they are practicing breathing, all their organs are developing normally, and our little girl has a full head of hair. The not so good news is our little boys placenta is basically not providing him with enough blood and oxygen so he is not able to grow at the rate of his sister. This is actually pretty common in twin pregnancy. He weighs 3lbs 7 oz and she is at 3lbs 13 oz. They sent me to L&D for a
NST (non-stress test) this tests for contractions and the babies
heart rates. They also want to take all precautions and they gave me a steroid injection to speed up their lung development in case they come early. Mom and babies passed the
NST with flying colors. The doctor orders me to be on
bed rest and to "act like a princess" (her exact words) until they arrive. I will be closely monitored for the remainder of my pregnancy going for the
NST twice a week and ultrasounds twice a week. The doctor is confident that if they are born at 34 weeks while they will have to spend time in
NICU there will be no long term effects and the can still grow to be as tall as their dad at 6'4". My personal goal is to keep them cooking until 36 weeks. Please keep us in your thoughts!
